As I write the story, the girls become what they are now. Then, somehow, I don't know exactly, simply somehow, my subliminal idea or some hidden emotion creates the characters to be potent and capable."[three]
In real life, Shino wears glasses containing an NXT polymer which could withstand a bullet; although they are not prescription, they provide her with some security as a result of her trauma.[four] Series artist abec told Dengeki Bunko Mag that the glasses had been created as he felt in that location were not enough characters in the serial with spectacles.[5]

When she was 2 years erstwhile, her father died in a car accident.[6] Viii years subsequently, while at a post office, an armed robber attempted to shoot a pregnant woman, simply lost control of the gun subsequently Shino scrap his manus. Afterwards, she shot him 3 times, killing him.[7] Since, she adult a fright of guns, entering panic attacks whenever one is visible. As a result, she is bullied at schoolhouse by her peers, with a finger gun existence enough to trigger her phobia.[8] To help ease her trauma, her friend Kyōji Shinkawa convinced her to play Gun Gale Online.[9] Known equally Sinon ingame, her chief weapon is the «PGM Ultima Ratio Hecate Ii» sniper rifle, which she earned subsequently defeating a monster in a dungeon.[10]
Shortly before the Bullet of Bullets (BoB) tournament, Sinon encounters Kirito, deciding to assist him afterward assertive he is female due to his avatar.[eleven] After Kirito's truthful gender was revealed, an angered Sinon[12] attempts to exit him, but they meet again during the BoB.[xiii] The ii are confronted by Death Gun, who causes Sinon'southward PTSD to relapse when his weapon was revealed to be a Type 54 pistol, the aforementioned weapon she had used in the post function shooting.[14] She is rescued by Kirito and the two escape, though she is afraid to attack Death Gun.[15] With his assistance, Sinon overcomes her fright and the two defeat Death Gun.[16] Later, the two end the tournament as co-winners after Sinon kills them both with a «Gift Grenade».[17] Upon exiting GGO, Shino is visited by Shinkawa, who congratulates her on winning the BoB. However, angry at Kirito, he attacks her with intentions of committing double suicide, and reveals himself to exist one of Death Gun'southward creators.[18] Shino manages to resist his attack and escape, just is stopped by Shinkawa before she could leave the house; Kirito arrives and fights Shinkawa, the latter somewhen existence knocked out by Shino throwing her stereo at him.[19]

Reception [edit]
[edit]
[Sinon] is the first recurring female person graphic symbol in the anime side of the franchise who is not divers primarily past her connexion to Kirito. Instead she is defined by an incident from her past which she cannot escape no affair how hard she tries, one which has inflicted her with the rough equivalent of PTSD. Her newest attempt to get over it is to use VR technology as a kind of therapy, a fascinating extension of the base technology which is also explored a bit in Aldnoah.Zero but from an entirely different angle. Ironically, the unreality of a game designed to requite the experience of reality allows her to become the person she wants to exist in existent life: stiff, contained, unafraid of guns, and capable [...] She badly wants to learn how to transfer that strength into her existent-world self, and her quest to do so forms one of the core themes of the Phantom Bullet arc.
Theron Martin, Anime News Network[24]
Richard Eisenbeis of Kotaku praised Sinon'southward part in Sword Art Online Two, describing her every bit "easily the deepest character to come out of Sword Art Online".[25] Too, Carly Smith of The Escapist institute Sinon to exist a "breath of fresh air" in a testify similar Sword Fine art Online, which could have "concluded after its outset arc, halfway through the first season."[26] In reviewing the 2nd episode of the Sword Art Online Two anime, Salvador GRodiles of Japanator.com wrote that "Sinon isn't a pushover in boxing" and is likewise "a force to be reckoned with",[27] and found her graphic symbol to be enjoyable.[28] In last his review of Sword Fine art Online II, Sinon's character and story were praised again, writing "Overall, A-ane were able to wrap up Sword Fine art Online II's Phantom Bullet nicely. Nosotros got to see Shino slowly recover from her trauma and the show did a decent chore in explaining the process behind Shinkawa and his older blood brother's evil scheme – even if their scheme had some far-fetched elements. To meridian information technology all off, they were able gear up things upwardly for the next large storyline in the series."[29]
GRodiles also praised the interactions betwixt Sinon and Kirito after Kirito revealed to her his true gender, claiming "the series deserves some props for the way how they executed Kirito and Sinon'south recent interaction [...] While most viewers might criticize SAO for having Sinon react negatively towards Kirito when he told her the truth, the guy kind of deserved information technology for not being honest with her when they first met. Thank you to this state of affairs, we tin can encounter both characters develop in a way that won't turn into a mindless sequence where Kazuto pretends to be a woman; thus destroying any distractions that would prevent the show's plot from moving frontwards."[xxx] In a review of the start Blue-Ray disc of the Sword Art Online II anime, Theron Martin of Anime News Network praised Sinon as a "strong female co-lead", noting how different the other recurring female characters of the franchise, she is the only one not defined by her relationship with Kirito, but rather an incident from her past.[24]
Martin continued his review in office 2, where he lauded the writing of Sinon's backstory and sufferance of PTSD equally "masterful", writing "The mode she falls autonomously even in her Sinon persona when faced with a particular stressor is quite credible, every bit is the style she struggles to cope with her crushing fearfulness; she is desperately afraid to dice, but even more than afraid of living with the fear [...] [Information technology] almost seems like a deliberate message is being sent to the audience, and the way she finally finds her resolve and fights back when her life is in serious jeopardy is heartening." He also praised Michelle Ruff's vocalization acting in the English dub.[31] Anime News Network's Rebecca Silverman too praised Sinon's portrayal, noting her to be "a much more interesting graphic symbol" than both Kirito or Asuna, as "what makes Sinon a more successful grapheme than whatever to previously appear in the main series is that she has more depth. Rather than being just a scared or traumatized character, she'southward someone who is actively working to alter herself [...] it feels similar this is a turning point for Kawahara's writing skill. Sinon isn't perfectly depicted, but she's got more going on than previous characters."[32] Sam of The Otaku's Written report similarly noted how Sinon already established herself every bit "ane of the most adult Sword Art Online characters" despite appearing in only 7 episodes thus far, praising her backstory and contrast between her in-game and out-of-game personas.[33]

Anime website GoBoiano listed "Sharp Shooter Sinon" equally ane of the positive aspects of Sword Art Online Ii, noting her intelligence and strength, every bit well as Kirito non knowing her outside of gaming allowing the 2 to bail in a way different to the other girls in the franchise.[41] She also made a list of their "14 Anime Marksmen That You Can't Hide From", where she ranked 14th,[42] as well as the "15 Anime Characters You Wish You Could Waifu", with author Aaron Magulick adding "Sinon is calm and cool, but she'll snipe you right in the centre. Once you get past her cold exterior, you'll find a loving person that'll protect you lot from afar. Which works when y'all're stuck in a gun-based mmo."[43] A Newtype character poll had Sinon placed kickoff in female person characters, notably edging out fellow Sword Art Online grapheme Asuna.[44] In a fan contest where respondents chose between 41 options for the next Sword Art Online figurine, Sinon placed fourth (Gun Gale Online version) and ninth (Alfheim Online version).[45]

The popularity of the character has resulted in several official Sword Art Online trade featuring her, for example equally a 1/8th scale Sinon statue.[46] Sword Art Online girls (including Sinon) feature in a merchandise lottery by Bandai, where they are depicted in french maid article of clothing with cooking utensils, with Anime News Network humorously noting that they have "brought in a pretty penny for the franchise's creators."[47] In that location are also Kirito, Asuna, and Sinon Sword Art Online-branded perfumes for sale; "Sinon" is described as "a mature scene of marin citrus and herbs.
