i'm not very good at reddit! don't know how to do text and an image lol but this is ollie! he's been with me for a year and half. i found him in a shelter and got him for $80, didn't know he was a carolina dog until maybe 6 months of having him. but i've had people come up to me asking where did i find home, how they've been looking for one for years and some even asking me if i'm interested in rehoming home (not enough money in the world). when i did my research after discovering his breed, i obviously learned how rare my sweet pup is as a pet but i was wondering where everyone else found their dogs. do most people stumble upon them in the shelter or seek out a breeder or what?

I got mine from a shelter in Eastern NC.

Animal shelter in Durham, NC. He had been found as a pup by a river and brought to DPS.

My girl was found starving and covered in mange in a construction site in Houston. Living under a pile of lumber with her poor mama and litter mates. She somehow managed to have one of her ears ripped off. She was rescued by a local org and brought up to the Pacific Northwest where she is now living her best life with her humans, doggie brother and kitty sister. Thank god for Rescues!

Someone dumped our girl in our front yard- dropped her off and drove away. She was 3 months old. We of course took her in and been in love with her ever since. She's getting ready to turn 2 in a few months. — we had never even heard of a Carolina Dog until one of our neighbors asked us what breed she was and told us that she looked like an "American Dingo."

Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue. My boy was found in a field in New Mexico and brought to metro Denver. He's the best thing ever. I love him so much.

Got mine at the dog pound in San Antonio. He was about 6-7 months old

Got our dingo in Houston. She was a rescue when we were looking for a second dog. She would not stop barking in her kennel, finally grabbed my attention and was quiet. She had extra dew claws and I thought to myself "you're weird, let's take her"

My friend found her as a pup wandering around in the rain in Raleigh. He couldn't keep her so we took her. Currently living her best life on the Oregon Coast.

a shelter in east texas picked my CD up after a person shot the mother while she was feeding her pups. so we fostered the 2 that lived and couldnt let one go.

Salono Sherriffs Dept Animal Rescue- found Kaeyla living wild on a Ranch illegally (dingo ownership in NorCal is a Grey area, you can own, but not buy or breed) She killed and ate a squirrel out of my bird feeder on her 3rd day at my house, needless to say I removed the "Dingo Feeder" shortly after.

Craigslist! Listed as a Chow/Pit mix lol. We live in South Carolina and drove to Sumter SC to pick her up. Knew right away she was not the listed breed… now we know she's our Carolina girl!

From a rescue in California. He was listed as a shepherd mix, and I wondered what he could be mixed with to come up with a dog who looks so distinct. Researched a week later, and found out he was a really CD. I'd heard of CDs, but hadn't seen one before.
The rescue I got him from just asked to donate whatever you could. I think I paid $250. Worth every penny and more!
